Harper and a Potential Coalition Government
It’s not so much that I object to having a coalition government (though I think it would likely end up meaning Canada will join the ranks of those involved in the recession, so in general I would prefer to keep the Conservatives in power; considering Canada is one of the least affected G8 countries, I think it’s a bad time to do a swaperoo like this, and certainly a bad time to put into power a government that’s more likely to spend money on frivolity, but that’s just me), it’s more that I object to the fact that Stéphane Dion is still in the running for coalition Prime Minister. The fact that he hasn’t been unilaterally discarded as a PM option by all concerned parties is.. is… really fuckin’ scary, actually.
I also seriously doubt such a government has any hope at all of remaining stable for 12 months, let alone 30. I’m sorry, but the Liberals, the NDP, and the Bloc playing nice for two and a half years? *snorts* Riiiiight. It is nice to see the Conservatives backpedal, though. Hehehe. And Stephen Harper’s fearmongering post on his facebook page is pretty lulzy.
